Hwange Maid Arrested for Stealing Her Boss’s Valuables Worth More Than US$1000

A 19-year-old maid from Hwange has been arrested for stealing her boss’s property worth more than US$1000.

Maid Abusing Trust

The court heard that on the 31st of May this year, the maid’s boss left for work and left her alone at home. She then took advantage of the situation and entered into her boss’s bedroom. Noticing some valuable stuff that included expensive clothes and perfumes, the maid stole them.

Hasty Getaway

The maid then packed the valuable stuff that she had stole in a suitcase and left the house without notifying her boss. It wasn’t until the maid’s boss returned from work that she noticed some of her belongings were missing from her bedroom. She immediately went to the nearby police station to file a report.

Thorough Investigation By ZRP Police

The police conducted an investigation that led to the maid’s arrest. They managed to recover property mounting to more than US$800 of the US$1000 stolen.

Harsh Punishment

The maid was found guilty and sentenced to 30 months in prison. “Four months were suspended for 5 years, and another 8 months were suspended on the condition that she pays restitution,” the statement read. “The remaining 18 months were suspended on the condition that she performs 630 hours of community service.”

Shurungwi Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder of Employee

In a separate incident, a 41-year-old Shurungwi man, Tawanda Darangwa, has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for attempted murder. The court heard that on September 22nd, 2021, Darangwa, a shop owner, went to his establishment to purchase beer. When his employee informed him that they had run out, an argument ensued, and Darangwa allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot her in the shoulder.
