- Contracts for more than 200 tolling cashiers terminated with no explanation
- Board chair Madana accused of nepotism
ROAD administrator, Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) this week wielded the axe on more than 200 tolling cashiers under unclear circumstances, Zim Morning Post can reveal.
The sacking follows reports of massive maladminstration at toll gates which implicated the top brass.
However, the manner in which the lay off was conducted has exposed board chair Michael Madana who is accused of cherry- picking under qualified personell to replace the casualties.
“Madana recruited his relatives who are not qualified for the posts. He terminated the contracts of the tolling agents with no basis. He is been purging employees and he and Saston Muzenda are creating their small empire at Zinara,” a source tol Zim Morning Post.
Zim Morning Post had sight of the letter of appointment which stated an upward review of salaries to ZWL 7600 inclusive of transport allowance.
The basic salary is pegged at ZWL 6240 and a transport allowance of ZWL660.
The overtime allowance is pegged at rate of 1.5 on normal days and double the same on public holidays.
The contracts were signed on January 10.
Zinara has a checkered past recently exposed in a forensic audit conducted by BDO auditors.
“The new team is untrained and there is bound to be loss of revenue as they need to acclaimaitise with the system. Its just sad that contract arbitrary terminated like that,” lamented a source.
Madana has been accused of abusing company funds to champion his political intrests in Wedza.
He is also accused of using a proxy one Gilfern Moyo whom he handpicked from Zimpapers and imposed him as head of human resources and adminstration.
Efforts to get a comment from Madana hit a snag as his mobile phone went unanswered at the time of writing.
Zinara recently fired chief executive Nancy Masiyiwa-Chamisa after she reportedly crossed swords with former Transport minister Joram Gumbo, who stands accused of protecting a group of senior managers whose jobs were on the line for various offences.
Public Relations manager, veteran media practitioner Augustine Moyo voluntarily left the organisation last year, finance director Simon Taranhike also left in controversial circumstances.
The toxicity at the road adminstrator has reached alarming levels, with the deposed 200 tolling cashiers vowing to contest the termination of contracts in court arguing that there is no legal standing for such a move.
