A National Social Security Authority employee was allegedly defrauded of US$12,000 by Tatenda Makanda, a Chitungwiza businessman and owner of Tatmark Motors, in a botched vehicle deal.
Makanda, 32, appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on two counts of fraud and was released on US$100 bail, with conditions to avoid interfering with witnesses and report to Warren Park Police Station.
The complainant, Marry Masocha, alleges Makanda sold a Toyota Axio without the owner’s consent. In January, Masocha transferred ZWG105,783,606.84 for the vehicle, which was later recovered by the CID Vehicle Theft Squad.
Makanda is also accused of defrauding Wellington Iddi in April by selling an unregistered Honda Vezel without authorization.
