Karoi Man Convicted for Threatening To Kill His Biological Father

A 29-year-old man from Karoi , Beness Date, has been arrested for threatening to kill his biological father.

Heated Confrontation at Family Business

On May 15th, 2024, Beness went to his father’s shop at Hwata Business Centre in Karoi. He found his mother there and started arguing with her. The father trying to cool off the atmosphere, intervened and that angered Beness. Beness then turned his rage towards his father, taking out a knife and threatening to kill him. The parents then later that day went to the police and filed a report leading to his arrest.

Court Hands Down Sentencing

Beness appeared before the Karoi Magistrate’s Court and was convicted and sentenced to a fine of US$200 or 2 months imprisonment. “The accused person was convicted and sentenced to a fine of US$2000 or 2 months imprisonment,” the National Parks Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) press statement read.

Harare Duo Jailed for Ivory Possession

In a separate incident, a Harare duo was convicted and sentenced to 9 years in jail for contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.

Wildlife Traffickers Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison

On June 13th, the police received a tip-off that Sadius Zimba and Amon Chiwenga were in possession of ivory. They were caught and arrested at Newland Shopping Centre while looking for buyers. The two men had sixteen pieces of ivory weighing more than 9kg, valued at US$1,643.

“The accused persons failed to produce a licence or permit which authorised them to possess the ivory, leading to their arrest. The accused persons were sentenced to 9 years imprisonment,” read the NPAZ press statement.
