HARARE — Zimbabwe is hosting 13 Japanese university students on a familiarisation tour of the country’s tourism attractions, culture and history, the Zimbabwe Embassy in Tokyo said on Friday.
The students are members of Millennium Promise Japan (MPJ), a non-profit organisation that supports development projects in Africa and aims to raise awareness of the continent among the Japanese people.
The embassy said it facilitated the tour, which runs from March 2 to 17, after engaging with MPJ and presenting Zimbabwe as a destination of choice at the Tokyo University of Foreign Languages in December 2023.
The students will visit Harare, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Hwange and Victoria Falls, and share their experiences on social media platforms such as Instagram, the X and YouTube.
They will also meet with the tourism minister in Bulawayo on March 17 to discuss their findings and impressions.
The embassy said the tour was a positive development for Zimbabwe’s tourism sector, which is aiming to attract more visitors from Japan and other global markets to achieve a 5 billion tourism economy and the Vision 2030.
