UK Govt offers £10,000 for Zim teachers

The UK Department for Education is offering international relocation payments of £10,000 to overseas physics and language teachers to cover visa and moving expenses.

The move is aimed at filling classroom vacancies and officials expect between 300 and 400 payments to be made to teachers starting in the next academic year in September.

The Department is also planning to introduce new rules making it easier to recognise teaching qualifications from certain countries. Ghana, India, Singapore, Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe are set to benefit as they are considered to have historical education links to Britain as well as teachers interested in coming here.

The move would give them equal footing to those with qualifications from Europe, Australia and New Zealand looking to come to Britain.

The Department for Education has launched a one-year trial offering no more than 400 of the very best teachers from around the world the opportunity to teach in UK schools.
