Never Makova, former fleet manager of AMG Global, yesterday appeared in a Harare court accused of defrauding Alliance Insurance Private Limited. Appearing before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi, Makova was remanded in custody until today for bail conditions to be established.
Complainant Blessing Chamaida, Loss Control Officer for Alliance Insurance, said that on April 7, 2016, CMED Harare had purchased a Jeep Cherokee which was later sold to its general manager, Steven Mavura. On July 20, 2018, Mavura then surrendered its number plate to CMED and a foster was affixed to a newly imported Toyota Landcruiser.
The Landcruiser was then involved in an accident and reported to ZRP Avondale. Consequently, CMED approached its Procurement Unit and engaged several panel beaters such as FineEye Auto, Speed Body and Floyd Enterprises for quotations. FineEye Panel Beaters were then awarded the job of repair on May 11, 2021 at a cost of US$77,791.
Makova then allegedly connived with the late Albert Kaseke, owner of FineEye Panel Beaters, to make misrepresentations that it was Kaseke’s car, and submitted that to Alliance Insurance on June 10, 2021. Further claims that the vehicle had been involved in an additional accident were also raised, and Alliance Insurance issued a deposit of US$17,003 into FineEye’s bank account as payment for the repairs.
Makova and the late Kaseke are accused of further conniving to dupe the insurance company of a further US$6,600 in another fake claim for the Landcruiser.
Makova stands accused of insurance fraud and will appear in court today for bail application.
