THE Christian community has unanimously agreed to conform to the ban of church gatherings ordered by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday.

In an interview with the Zim Morning Post, Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) secretary-general, Kenneth Mutata said all churches are recommended to conform with the law so as to save lives.
“It is a constitutional requirement and we cannot run away from it although our biggest challenge is to mobilize enough so that our church members get what they should get,” he said.

The United Family International Church spokesperson Prime Kufa said his members will only conduct cell groups in their small numbers since a public gathering should have not more than 100 people as the president has proclaimed.
The Seventh Day Adventist Zimbabwe East Union Conference (ZEUC) president Godfrey Musara urges churches to meet in small groups of less than 100 people.
“Large meetings such as youth camps and congresses are therefore postponed or cancelled, as the case may warrant, until further notice in compliance with the proclamation,” Musara said.
The United Methodist church spokesperson Ananias Khumbuyo Nyanjaya shared the same sentiments.
“We conform because we cannot take the blame if people die in large numbers after they attend church services,” he said.
