THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) on Tuesday issued a statement suspending all football matches.
The football governing body has also dissociated itself from any gatherings done in the name of football in the country, Zim Morning Post can confirm.
In a statement released this week, Zifa said all football matches would be suspended, while the Confederation of African Football (CAF) also resolved to postpone the 2020 CHAN tournament which had been scheduled for Cameroon.
“All football matches and gatherings are hereby suspended with immediate effect. CHAN camp will be dissolved on March 18, 2020,” read the statement.
“CAF has also taken a decision to postpone the 2020 Cameron CHAN tournament. Please, be guided accordingly,” the further read.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday declared COVID-19 a national disaster.
He outlined a number of measures to combat the scourge, including the temporary banning of gatherings exceeding 100 people.
