“You spoke, we Acted”: MP Mhetu reports back on CDF use
EPWORTH – Epworth North Member of Parliament Zivai Mhetu has provided a detailed account of how the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was used this year, highlighting road rehabilitation as a top priority and pledging to continue addressing pressing infrastructure needs.
Speaking during feedback meetings held across all three Epworth North wards on Saturday, Mhetu said residents had overwhelmingly agreed that the CDF—amounting to ZiG1.3 million—be channelled towards road repairs as a step toward attaining title deeds and boosting service delivery.
“In ward 1, we graded and gravelled the road to Muguta Secondary School via Kedish, patched potholes from Chihota turnoff to Maperera, and rehabilitated sections near Komboni Yatsva and Chiremba Shops,” Mhetu said.
Ward 6 saw improvements on routes near Speed Market and Honor Wisdom School, while in Ward 7, roads linking Corner Auction to Delport Road and the quarry area were upgraded. The Adelaide sports ground was also graded and is now usable for community activities. A total of 1.5km was covered across the three wards.
Mhetu said the remaining ZiG10,980 in the fund was insufficient to cover rock blasting needed to advance road works, but after residents sought his support, he pledged to personally finance the shortfall to keep the project on track.
Residents have also agreed to prioritise roadworks in the next CDF cycle.
Beyond the CDF, Mhetu said he has been lobbying for improved water access, with Marondera Town Council having agreed to supply water from its three dams. However, he noted delays in getting approvals from the Epworth Local Board since 2023.
The former ZINASU spokesperson also promised to electrify Mabvazuva Secondary School by December 2025 and continue working towards electrifying more schools in the constituency.
Mhetu added that he is working with Kwangu Trust and local authorities to fast-track the issuance of title deeds by pushing for layout plans to be approved and submitted to the Surveyor-General—clearing the way for construction of essential infrastructure like roads and water systems.
The meetings were also attended by Senator Katumba and Hon. Shiriyedenga.
