Zanu PF MPs vow to disrupt all parliamentary committees chaired by MDC Alliance… say party should lay aside Mnangagwa legitimacy issue

ZANU PF Chief Whip in the National Assembly,  Pupurai  Togarepi, on Thursday vowed that his party will continue sabotaging  and disrupting all  Parliamentary Committees chaired by MDC Alliance Members of Parliament.

Togarepi said MDC Alliance representatives should first recognise President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the legitimate leader of Zimbabwe rather than continue to play it out on public forums when they know it was resolved at the booths on July 30, 2018.

“MDC Alliance legislators should know that what they do to President (Emmerson)   Mnangagwa, we can as well do that to them.  They should stop their mick mouse games of legitimacy when we fully know that this issue was resolved in the ballot and the courts,” Togarepi said.

He advised MDC Alliance legislators to recognise and respect Mnangagwa as the legitimate President of Zimbabwe as this would benefit the whole country.

“For the sake of development, MDC Alliance MPs should just do the noble thing of respecting our Constitution and we work together as  a nation for the sake of development ,” Togarepi said.

Zanu PF Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members on Friday reportedly walked out on chairperson Tendai Biti, also “questioning his legitimacy”.

The PAC oral evidence hearing for Sakunda Holdings at Parliament crumbled after Biti, who doubles up as Harare East MP and MDC vice president had his chairmanship of the committee queried by Zanu PF’s Dexter Nduna in retaliation of the opposition’s rejection of Mnangagwa as the legitimate leader of the country.

According to Independent Norton MP Temba Mliswa, Nduna raised the issue on why Biti should be allowed to chair the committee when he had failed to recognise Mnangagwa as the country’s legitimate leader.

“Nduna raised the point of how the committee could be chaired by someone who did not recognise the President and it was a valid point. Biti would have none of that and he decided to adjourn the meeting,”  Mliswa said.

According to Togarepi, what happened on Friday to Biti was child’s play compared to what the MDC Alliance legislators should now expect from Zanu PF legislators henceforth.

“What happened on Friday is just a teaser of what they should expect.  I can guarantee you that no committee, which is chaired by any MDC Alliance member will proceed until they recognise President Mnangagwa,” Togarepi added.
