Scotland FC Players Awarded Bonuses, Promised Cars as Promotion Nears

HARARE — Scotland FC players received a financial windfall this week, with each squad member receiving $2,000 in bonuses, plus the promise of new vehicles from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, following their remarkable campaign in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League.

Chivayo, rewarded the team $1,000 for each recent victory—over Harare City and Herentals Under-19— a result which brought the club within reach of promotion to Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League.

Goalkeeper Panashe Nyamhunga expressed gratitude for the reward, noting the boost it has brought to the team’s morale. “I want to thank Sir Wicknell from the bottom of my heart,” he said. “All players received our bonuses, and I got my car yesterday. I am so happy and delighted.”

The victory bonuses come as Scotland FC continues its ascent in the league, recently moving to the top of the table after being awarded three points from their abandoned match against Karoi United last month.

The league’s disciplinary committee awarded Scotland a 3-0 win after the game was halted eight minutes from time due to violence. The referee was struck by a missile, reportedly a “hard object,” prompting the officiating crew to take cover as projectiles rained down.

Karoi United’s failure to provide adequate security, the committee determined, led to the match’s abandonment, awarding Scotland FC the maximum points. The decision was finalized after Karoi repeatedly delayed the committee’s ruling, filing appeals and seeking postponements.

Scotland FC now leads by two points over second-place MWOS with one game remaining, putting them in prime position for PSL qualification.
