HARARE — Organikks Restaurant has reinforced its strict anti-drug stance following the recent arrest of a suspected drug dealer at its Chisipite location. The 31-year-old suspect, Monalisa Shamiso Mwadzira, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
In response to the incident, Organikks released a statement pointing to its commitment to providing a safe, drug-free environment for patrons. “This unfortunate event is deeply concerning, and we are fully committed to ensuring our venues remain safe spaces for all guests,” the restaurant said. Organikks also expressed appreciation to a vigilant customer whose prompt report to authorities facilitated the swift intervention.
“We commend the client for their vigilance and quick action, which underscores the importance of community involvement in tackling drug-related issues,” the statement read. The restaurant extended its gratitude to the Zimbabwe Republic Police for their professional handling of the case, reinforcing its stance against drug abuse.
Mwadzira was arrested on Nov. 2, when detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, acting on a tip, observed her with a white handbag at Organikks. A search revealed two suspected ecstasy pills, two sachets of loose dagga, and evidence of cocaine ingestion. She was remanded in custody, with a bail hearing set for Tuesday.
Addressing Zimbabwe’s escalating drug crisis, Organikks called on local businesses, community members, and government agencies to unite in tackling drug abuse. “This crisis is eroding our communities and harming our youth,” the restaurant’s statement said.
As part of its efforts to combat drug use, Organikks pledged to support vulnerable individuals with counseling, mentorship, and connections to support networks, including local religious institutions. The restaurant stated its readiness to partner with organizations dedicated to addressing drug abuse in Zimbabwe.
“We remain resolute in upholding a safe, drug-free environment for all patrons and are committed to playing an active role in protecting the health and future of the communities we serve,” the statement concluded.
