NetOne brings joy to the elderly

MUTARE – State owned mobile networks operator, NetOne has donated Christmas groceries worth ZWL$300 000 to Zororai Old People’s home as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

Roselyn Chisveto NetOne’s Head Marketing and Public Relations said the mobile network operator was delighted to be involved in charity work.

“This initiative is a highlight of NetOne’s commitment over the past 25 years towards uplifting the lives of various members of the community. As part of NetOne’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations, the leading mobile network operator, has taken time to assist the plight of the less privileged people in the society,” she said.

“Under NetOne in the community arm, the company has recently been identified with sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs through capacitating marginalized schools, clinics and hospitals with the provision of laptops, desktops, exercise books, hospitals beds, wheel chairs, blankets, and other hospital equipment among others,” Chisveto said.

She said NetOne has empowered youths, women and children with livelihood skills to undertake various entrepreneurial activities by offering welding machines and sewing machines among others.

“NetOne will continue to roll out this initiative yearly to different less privileged homes who are often left out. Christmas is a time to share love, at such a time it is important to reach out and put a smile on someone’s face, Zororai Old People’s home, had such a great time with NetOne,” said Chisveto.

She urged the elderly at Zororai Old Peoples’ home to continue to practice and observe all the necessary COVID-19 precaution measures.

“As the year ends, the company’s focus is to continue impacting lives, indeed its digital transformation journey has brought a new way of life for everyone, connecting the unconnected,” she said.

The home’s administrator Gondai Gondo said: “We want to thank NetOne for this donation. It is so worthy as it has come during the COVID-19 period. This will go a long way in sustaining the lives of the elderly.”

Gondo added: “It is so humbling to have such companies like NetOne who take their time in remembering the elderly. We want to appreciate such initiatives and I want to encourage NetOne to continue remembering the elderly people as this will definitely make a difference in their lives.”

NetOne staff spent some time with the elderly, creating bonds and generating festive mood.

Zororai Old People’s home which was founded in 1962, takes care of elderly people over the age of 65.

Five selected orphanages and old age homes across the country will be benefiting through the same initiative this festive season. The inventiveness is part of NetOne‘s mandate to transform and develop communities.
