Now Karoi Town Council want to know – where did you get the $5000?
KAROI, Zimbabwe — Karoi United’s appeal on their abandoned match against Scottland has taken a new twist amid reports that Karoi Town Council has demanded answers from the club executive on how they managed to raise $5000 to pay for the appeal.
Council officials have questioned the club’s executive, asking for details on the source of the funds submitted to ZIFA. “We will also take up this matter with ZACC because we suspect corruption, and as the town council, we don’t want to be associated with this,” a Karoi councillor said. “For an amount like this to be spent, there needs to be a council resolution. But council never approved this expenditure, nor did the funds come from us. We want to know who financed this appeal and why, especially since our team is already relegated.”
The councillor added that Karoi United’s actions raise concerns about the intent and potential beneficiaries, hinting that Mwos — in second place and the likely beneficiaries if the appeal succeeds — may be involved. “Assuming we get the points, what’s the benefit? This is a scandal in the making, and we demand answers. Karoi Town Council will not tolerate corruption,” the councillor stated.
The matter is set to be discussed at a council meeting tomorrow, amid reports of division within the club’s executive regarding the appeal. Karoi Town Council has emphasized that it does not want to be drawn into the promotion race between Mwos and Scottland
