Gokwe Mentally Challenged Man Flees After Gruesome Killing of 82-Year-Old Granny

A mentally challenged man from Gokwe is currently on the run after allegedly killing his 82-year-old granny. He struck her with a hoe handle and mutilated her by cutting off her left breast.

Previous Murder Charge and Release

The mentally challenged man, Farai Mahwindi, had previously faced a murder charge in 2016 and was subsequently committed to Mlondolozi Prison. He was released from the prison’s Psychiatric Unit last November.

Details of the Attack

According to Inspector Mahoko, on Tuesday at approximately 9 a.m., granny Zvierengwi Manyeredzi, was attacked by her mentally challenged grandson while she was at home. The suspect’s father had left for the fields, and his mother had gone to the garden, leaving the suspect alone with his grandmother.

Discovery of the Gruesome Crime

Upon returning home, Catherine Manyeredzi, the suspect’s mother, found her mother-in-law’s lifeless body inside the kitchen hut. She immediately noticed an open wound on the head and alerted other villagers.

The Suspect on the Run

A search for the suspect was initiated by the villagers, who followed his tracks from the kitchen to the nearby bush. This led them to suspect that Farai Mahwindi was responsible for the brutal attack. As of now, the suspect remains at large.

Investigation Findings

Police investigators examined the victim’s body and discovered a deep cut on the back of her head, along with the complete removal of her left breast. A blood-stained wooden hoe handle was found near the crime scene. The victim’s body was subsequently transported to Gokwe South District Hospital for further examination.

Past History of Mental Illness

During the ongoing investigation, the suspect’s father revealed that Farai had previously been declared mentally challenged following his involvement in a murder case in 2016. He was subsequently committed to the Mlondolozi Prison Psychiatric Unit, from which he was discharged in November of last year.
