FIFA suspend Zimbabwe from international competitions
FIFA has suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) from international competitions with immediate effect due to flagrant violations of the FIFA Statutes.
The world football governing body said it will only lift suspension upon the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC)’s repealing suspension of the ZIFA General Secretary, the ZIFA board and dissolving the ZIFA restructuring committee.
FIFA also called for the withdrawal of the SRC’s legal complaint against ZIFA president Felton Kamambo and ZIFA Board members regarding alleged misuse of the ZIFA letterheads.
“Consequently, and in accordance with article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, ZIFA loses all its membership rights as of 24 February 2022 until further notice,” FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said in a statement.
ZIFA representative and club teams are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted while development programmes, courses or training from FIFA and/or CAF, including a US$1, 2 million annual FIFA fund are cut off.
FIFA said it remained committed to cooperating with any ongoing investigations regarding alleged sexual harassment and bribery by ZIFA officials.
