HARARE — Former Gokwe legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has reclaimed his luxury vehicles and haulage trucks following a High Court ruling ordering the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the Prosecutor General to release the impounded assets.
Wadyajena, an ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, had been battling to recover his property after the state failed to link him to allegations of fraud and money laundering. The High Court previously ruled in his favor, but ZACC delayed the release, citing ongoing investigations.
The High Court’s latest order, which referenced case number HCH 4400/23, mandated ZACC and the Prosecutor General to comply with the earlier judgment and release the assets immediately. The court also ordered both parties to cover the costs of the application.
Wadyajena was arrested along with former Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) officials Pius Manamike and Maxmore Njanji in connection with a $5 million fraud and money laundering case. However, the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence.
ZACC had confiscated 23 haulage trucks, a Lamborghini SUV, and a BMW X6M, alleging the assets were acquired through illicit means. Despite the court’s ruling, the commission and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had been slow to return the property, citing what Wadyajena’s legal team described as baseless conditions.
