Church applauds Mnangagwa re-appointment

Zanu PF’s re-appointment of its first secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa to run for another five-year term as president has been applauded by Johane the 5th of Africa International Church.

Mnangagwa was unopposed and will seek re-election for the country’s presidency next year, where he’s likely to be challenged by the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa.

Johane the 5th of Africa International Church, Founder Archbishop Dr Andby Makururu, said the ruling party’s congress demonstrated ZANU PF’s maturity as a political party and its readiness to accept everyone who believes in its values, policies and ideology.

“We further note with satisfaction the re appointment of the Presidium as it confirms the President’s confidence in his team and his commitment to continuity and the determination to maintain stability and peace in the country,” he said.

“As part of a huge Christian community in Zimbabwe and in particular being an indigenous apostolic movement, we take pride in the outcomes of the congress because it gives us hope and a great future as His Excellency has demonstrated great respect for the church and has given us the space and encouragement to play our role in a progressive manner.”

The Johane the 5th of Africa International Church founder said Zimbabwe was “blessed to have a God-fearing leader and one who is ready to listen to his people and works tirelessly to deliver the promises he makes to the nation.”
He added that the church urges all citizens to embrace the call by the President for individuals and communities to participate in the development processes.

“The church should not stay on the terraces and watch or perhaps to wait for a moment to criticise but should seek to be actively involved in supporting government in the socio – economic and political development processes,” he said.

“We will support the President and his team in the promotion of ideals, programmes and policies that aim to advance the common good of all,” he continued.

During the congress, Vice-president Constantino Chiwenga took to the podium in support of Mnangagwa.
“While this congress is supposed to be elective, the party structures have already clearly and thunderously endorsed Comrade Mnangagwa as the president and 1st Secretary as the sole candidate in the 2023 national elections. People have thus spoken. Let their will be obeyed,” he said.
