Chevening Scholarship Draws Record 109,000 Applicants

The Chevening Scholarship has received a record 108,959 applications for the 2025 academic year — the highest number in the program’s history — reflecting how more people across the world are turning to education as a path to a better life.

The UK government-funded scholarship supports emerging leaders from developing countries to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. It is fully funded, covering tuition, living expenses, and travel costs.

To qualify, applicants must be citizens of Chevening-eligible countries, hold an undergraduate degree, have at least two years of work experience, and secure admission to three different UK universities. The rigorous selection process requires candidates to show how their studies will help address local and global challenges.

In a post on X, Chevening Awards said: “#Chevening applicants: the numbers are in! We received a record-breaking 108,959 Chevening Scholarship applications this year, meaning that if you’re selected, you’ll be amongst the top 1% of applicants!”

For many, particularly in countries facing economic hardship, the Chevening Scholarship represents more than just academic advancement — it is seen as an opportunity out of poverty and a gateway to global opportunity.
