MUTARE – Manica Diamonds FC have been given the green light to use Vengere Stadium in Rusape as their home ground after the ZIFA First Instance Board (FIB) approved the venue on Tuesday.
FIB chairman Piraishe Mabhena has confirmed the new development.
“The FIB has allowed Vengere Stadium to host PSL matches as from now,” he said.
Mabhena said they were, however, still concerned with the turf, which
he said must be worked on as soon as possible.
“The playing surface needs a lot of water and needs constant care and
maintenance,” he said.
Rusape Town Council has agreed to embark on a long term plan to resurface the turf completely. Manica Diamonds FC chairman Masimba Chihowa said the club was elated by the new development.
“It is also good for us as a club because this ground is in Manicaland even though we would have wanted Sakubva Stadium but Vengere is a better option,” he said.
The premiership new boys, affectionately known as the Gem Boys will kick off their maiden appearance at the citadel Vengere Stadium on Sunday when they welcome other premiere league debutants, TelOne FC.
Both teams will be buoyed by their previous victories. Manica Diamonds closely edged Herentals 0-1 in Harare last Sunday while TelOne, fondly known as WiFi Boys shocked the league champions FC Platinum by the same margin.
