Karoi Magistrate convicted for ‘favouring relative’

Karoi Magistrate Felix Chauromwe has been convicted for criminal abuse of duty.

He has been sentenced to three years. One year was suspended.

He had granted bail to VID officers during COVID-19 total shut down against the directive for cases to be on automatic remand.’

“He is said to be related to one of the accused persons who were also convicted last year,” Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission said in a statement.

It was proven that on July 21 2021Chauromwe made a ruling removing three accused persons, Alois Togarepi, Obvious Vheremu and Mussa Anesi from remand contrary to the Practice Direction 6 of 2021 issued by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.

Elsewhere Printflow as Corporate Services Director Godfrey Chiwara has been arrested for corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal as defined in section 172 of the Criminal Law ( Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23).

The accused is alleged to have carried out a transaction involving USD 196 586.29 without disclosing to the Principal the full nature of the transaction.

Chiwara is detained and is expected to appear in court on 10 March 2023.
