Zimbabwe courts temporarily shut down as Covid cases spike
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has temporarily closed its head office in Harare and court houses around the country due to confirmation of Covid-19 cases.
The courts shut down include Harare Civil and Criminal (Rotten Row) Courts, Tredgold Court in Bulawayo, Gweru Criminal, Gwanda Civil and Criminal Courts, Plumtree, Mutawatawa, Shurugwi, Chitungwiza, Goromonzi, Norton, Rusape, Chegutu, Inyathi, Kadoma, Mbare, and Mutare Civil and Criminal Courts.
This comes as Zimbabwe saw 4 031 new Covid-19 confirmed cases recorded by the Ministry of Health and Child Care on December 6, the highest daily total since the first case was seen in the country early last year.
As at 3pm December 6 there were 226 Covid-19 patients in hospital with 13 showing no symptoms, 173 showing mild to moderate symptoms, 39 showing severe symptoms and just one needing intensive care.
In a statement on Tuesday, JSC said the the temporary closure on Wednesday the 8th and Thursday 9th of December 2021 is to allow for disinfection of premises, testing, contact tracing and adherence to all Covid-19 protocols to contain the continued spread of the virus.
Business will resume on Friday, the 10th of December 2021.
“All matters set down for Wednesday, 8 December 2021 are automatically rolled over to Friday, 10 December 2021 while those set down for Thursday, 9 December 2021 are automatically rolled over to Monday, 13 December 2021,” JSC said.
