Zimbabwe approves campaign strategy for UN Security Council seat bid

Harare — Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved a campaign strategy to support the country’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term, Information Minister Jenfan Muswere said Tuesday.

Muswere, speaking after a post-Cabinet briefing, said the bid has already received endorsements from both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU). The campaign will be formally launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare and in New York during the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in September 2025.

“The outcome will reaffirm Zimbabwe’s commitment to international peace and security and help generate international goodwill,” Muswere said.
