Shoko Festival will this year run under the theme ‘Good Vibes Only’ in Harare and Chitungwiza and is meant to unite southern African arts, creativity and music platforms following the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The 2019 edition of Shoko festival will be staged from September 27 to 29.
The Shoko Festival is the most popular and longest running urban culture fiesta and is all about promoting urban culture, free expression and new ideas.
In a statement, Shoko Festival said it is running with the theme ‘Good Vibes Only’ to try and unite Southern Africa’s arts and music after last week’s xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
“After the xenophobic attacks in South Africa, the festival this year will run under the theme ‘Good Vibes Only’ as Shoko festival aims to create a unifying platform through the arts, creatives and music.”
Shoko festival will be bringing together a number of southern African countries to promote their talents at the festival.
“The proudly southern African lineup will promote unity and diversity and will bring together acts from Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe,” Shoko festival said in a statement.
The statement added that top South African comedian Celeste Ntuli, well known for her Isibaya role ‘Siphokazi’, will headline the festival together with Zimbabwean hip-hop artists, Tinashe Gonzara ‘Ti Gonzi’ and danchhall singer, Collet B Wahita ‘Bazooker’.
“Headline acts include top South African comedienne Celeste Ntuli, rapper of the moment Ti Gonzi and ZimDancehall supremo, Bazooker.”
“Celeste Ntuli will head up an entertaining line up of comedians at the Shoko Comedy Night set for REPS Theatre,” Shoko festival said.
