Victoria Falls – The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has launched a full-scale inquiry into a long-running joint venture between the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) and Landela Safari Adventures, amid revelations that NRZ has not received any lease payments for over two decades.
PAC Chairperson Chalton Hwende confirmed the investigation via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the committee is currently conducting hearings in Victoria Falls. The probe centers around prime NRZ-owned immovable properties in the resort town, which have been leased to Landela Safari Adventures since 1998 under a legally binding joint venture agreement.
According to testimony given under oath by NRZ officials, persistent political interference prevented the parastatal from enforcing the agreement or collecting any revenue from the lease.
“The Public Accounts Committee is currently in Victoria Falls conducting a full-scale inquiry into the NRZ-Landela Safari Adventures joint venture, following disturbing revelations that the NRZ has not been receiving any lease payments for over two decades despite legally binding agreements,” Hwende posted.
The inquiry is expected to shed light on the financial implications of the deal and the extent of political meddling that has allegedly crippled NRZ’s ability to benefit from its own assets.
