- Entire police station transferred over corrupt collusion with illegal miners
- Police officer hauled before disciplinary hearing
- Mazowe police in stolen exhibit hammer mills scandal
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police over the weekend transferred all police officers based at Mazowe Police Station amid allegations the entire staff there had connived to partner with illegal gold panners in the area.
ZRP Officer Commanding Mashonaland Central has approved the transfers, all immediately due for implementation.
Zim Morning Post is in possession of a police memo with all the names of those transferred from ZRP Mazowe to other police stations around Mashonaland Central province.
A ZRP source, who declined to be named, told this publication that police officers at Mazowe were actively involved in illegal gold panning activities in the area.
“When the operation started in January, Mazowe ZRP members’ illegal panning activities were exposed, with accusations that much of the mining tools used in the illegal gold mining activities belonged to them,” said the source.
Currently, a police officer from Mazowe ZRP is reportedly under disciplinary action for releasing illegal gold panners without the necessary clearance.
According to the Police Act, releasing any person in lawful custody without proper authority or by any wilful act or negligence is a punishable offense.
The insider further told Zim Morning Post that Mazowe police also faced allegations of smuggling during the night confiscated exhibits such as harmer mills.
“The police at Mazowe Station are responsible for the stolen harmer mills,” said the police insider.
Reached for comment Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi requested for more time to verify the development.
