Margolis Holdings @ 39…a journey of sweat, perseverance and hard-work

MARGOLIS Holdings turned thirty-nine on Thursday and the celebrations were held at the serene Margolis resort amid pomp and fanfare.

The resort is located along New Chitungwiza Road at a serene environment embraced by the flora and fauna.

The event was graced by the founder Stephen Margolis, along with his friends, business people, members of the diplomatic community, employees and stakeholders.

The guest of honour was former cabinet minister Herbert Murerwa who delivered a speech that was pregnant with praise for Stephen Margolis’ tenacity and business acumen that has seen his business empire rise from the ashes like a phoenix.

Turkey ambassador to Zimbabwe Hakan Kivanc also spoke glowingly on Stephen Margolis.

How the Margolis empire grew?

Stephen Margolis started a small hardware in Harare where he sold electricals.

As an astute businessman, he saw an opportunity in real estate and grabbed it like a person grabbing a bull by the horns.

“After the hardware, I saw an opportunity in real estate and quickly switched my core business.I bought a flat, Priah Court, next to the Chinese embassy residence. I then bought Old Margolis which I later sold to clear dates in the 90s after the introduction of Economic Structural Adjustment Programme (Esap), which saw a slight dip in the economy,” Mr Margolis said in his keynote address.

During Esap, Margolis holdings boasted of thirty six flats around Harare.

The business, according to Mr Margolis, then expanded into medical supplies which saw them hosting the Nurse of the Year awards for three years as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

“We also tried soap and detergents manufacturing and it went under and in 2006 and we went into land development,” Mr Margolis retraced.

At the moment, Margolis Group’s real estate and land development strategic business unit (SBU) is constructing roads in Borrowdale.

“At the resort, we are siting on 70 acres of land where we want to construct an amusement park, casino but our economy doesn’t allow fast moving expansion,” Mr Margolis said.
