Kwite West Man Arrested for Disturbing Assault on Aunt’s Privates

A 42-year-old man from Kwite West Village was arrested for assault after he fumbled his aunt’s privates. Gift Sibanda appeared before Plumtree resident magistrate Shumirai Mutimodhlo, facing charges of indecent assault under Section 67 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

The Disturbing Assault

On the evening of October 7, Sibanda arrived at his aunt’s homestead while she was having supper with her daughter. Upon being welcomed, he made a food request, which his aunt assigned to her daughter. As the aunt’s daughter began preparing food, Sibanda approached her, hugging her with his left hand while forcibly touching her intimate area with his right hand.

During the assault, Sibanda expressed his desire for sexual intercourse, disregarding the 40-year-old’s pleas. In her distress, the 40-year-old screamed, pushing Sibanda away, and called another relative from a nearby homestead.

Police Involvement and Arrest

The concerned relative arrived and found Sibanda outside the gate. Realizing the severity of the situation, the aunt was advised to report the incident to the police, leading to Sibanda’s subsequent arrest.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Sibanda pleaded guilty to the charge, resulting in a fine of US$100. Failure to pay the fine would lead to a two-month jail sentence. Additionally, the court imposed a five-year suspended sentence of four months imprisonment, provided he does not commit any sexual offenses during that period.

As the perpetrator faces custody, the priority is to support the victim and ensure justice is served. These appalling acts of assault must not go unpunished, serving as a warning to potential offenders. Unfortunately, this case is not an isolated incident. Recently, iBulawayo reported a similar disturbing case where an intoxicated man from the Iminyela suburb forcefully entered a house, demanding sexual relations with his sister-in-law in the middle of the night.
