HARARE — JM Busha FC celebrated their dominance in the Mashonaland East Division Two League at an awards ceremony in Harare on Friday, capping off a stellar season in which they finished first with 71 points.
The Mashonaland East Division Two League champions played 26 matches, winning 23, drawing two, and losing just once, finishing far ahead of second-placed Chivhu, who managed 56 points. Ghetto Pirates claimed third place with 49 points.
Player awards were the centerpiece of the celebration with Trevor Musimbira and Cosmas Nyamayaro scooping the Player of the Year award while Kudakwashe Mandeya won the Most Disciplined Player of the Year at a ceremony held in the capital on Friday.
Kelvin Chimusoro won the most Improved Player Year.
Sport and Recreation Commission Commercial Director Sheunopa Vushemakota urged the team to remain focused on their rise through the ranks. “Look at Jamie Vardy, who started in non-league football and went on to play for England,” Vushemakota said. “JM Busha should strive for similar success as they advance to Division One.”
Club president Joseph Makamba Busha highlighted the team’s broader mission beyond football. “We don’t just focus on football,” Busha said. “We partner with the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe. We have a netball team and other sporting initiatives aimed at keeping youth away from social ills, promoting peace, and lifting communities out of poverty.”
The club’s work aligns with its flagship initiative, JM Busha 54 Races for Peace and Unity in Africa, which encourages citizen participation in socio-economic development and accountability in governance. The program funds scholarships, community projects, and peacekeeping efforts through events that celebrate Africa’s diversity and potential.
“These players will take Zimbabwe to the AFCON finals, and some could emulate Cameroon’s historic World Cup run,” Busha said. “I expect at least eight of our players to represent the national team,” Busha added, urging players to continue to strive for greatness.
JM Busha FC coach Tichaona Wesere reflected on the challenges of the season and the collective effort behind their success. “None of our matches were easy—every team wanted to beat us,” Wesere said. “Our success is thanks to our president, the players, supporters, and management. My ultimate goal is to take JM Busha to the Premier League.”
Formed in 2019 in Mutoko, JM Busha FC has quickly risen to prominence. The club embodies the ideals of peace and unity through its commitment to youth development, community empowerment, and fostering excellence in sports. With their sights now set on Division One, JM Busha FC hopes to continue to break new boundaries both on and off the pitch.
