From Trusted Employee to Accused Thief: Bulawayo Arenel Supervisor Faces Court for Shocking Theft of Company Property
A supervisor employed by Arenel (Pvt) Ltd in Bulawayo found herself in court, accused of theft of trust property amounting to $5,000. Deidree Takudzwa Chikwira (28) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Racheal Muzanga, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Plea and Remand
Chikwira, the accused supervisor, was released on remand until October 2, as the trial will continue on a later date.
The allegations against Chikwira state that on February 2, she supervised the processing of a significant quantity of biscuits, including 200 cases of 12×125 grams chocolate creams and 504 cases of 10×500 grams vanilla snaps. She recorded the processing in the company’s production book and evaluation book.
On the same day, Chikwira allegedly requested the transfer of the aforementioned biscuits, seeking approval from the accounts clerk. However, she failed to follow through with the transfer as outlined in the company’s transfer of goods distribution manual.
As a result of her actions, Chikwira failed to account for the goods that she had indicated for transfer and recorded in the company’s books.
Discovery and Arrest
Subsequent investigations revealed the discrepancy, leading to Chikwira’s arrest. The unaccounted biscuits were valued at $5,290.80, and no recovery of the missing goods has been made thus far.
Legal Proceedings Continue
The case against Chikwira will proceed as the court examines the evidence and testimonies presented. The accused maintains her plea of not guilty as she awaits further proceedings in the matter.
The company involved will seek restitution for the alleged theft, highlighting the importance of trust and accountability in the workplace, reported bmetro.
