Breaking: Fortune Chasi fired

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday fired the Energy and Power Development Minister, Fortune Chasi, replacing him with Soda Zhemu.

The statement of Chasi’s ejection from government was delivered through a government Press release.

His excellency the President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has interms of Section 104 (1) and (3) of the constitution of Zimbabwe Ammendment (NO. 20) act 2013, appointed Hon. Soda Zhemu Member of Parliament Muzarabani North, as Minister of Energy and Power Development in place of the current Minister, Hon Advocate Fortune Chasi,” read the press statement issued by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda.

In the statement, Sibanda added that Chasi had been relieved of his duties following his continued inability to properly conduct government business within the President’s expectations.

Chasi’s position appeared precarious after he was recently embroiled in an argument with suspended Zesa Holdings chief executive chairperson, Sydney Gata.

The former minister had ordered that Gata be suspended over allegations involving unauthorised allocation of five Zesa vehicles to his family members.

However, Gata refused to let up and went on to release a statement announcing that no-one besides Mnangagwa could fire him.
