FC PLATINUM president George Mawere is set for an unceremonious exit following a salary-grading scandal that rocked the club’s parent company where he heads the human resources department.
Mawere is set to be replaced by Evans Mthombeni, insiders said.
Efforts to get a comment from Mawere were fruitless as he had not responded to questions sent to him on Monday at the time of going to Press.
Those close to him have confirmed that the FC Platinum president could be on his way out.
They, however, argue there was no link between Mawere’s impending exit and the salary-grading scandal that rocked Mimosa Mine’s human resources department.
“The irregular salary grading saw some lowly-ranked employees given higher and undeserving grades in exchange for a share of the difference with human resources employees,” an impeccable source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
“It is set to affect a lot of people from the mine who hold positions at FC Platinum. Evans Mthombeni, who is the current chairman, is going to be elevated to the position of president soon to replace Mawere. The scandal is so big that there are going to be a lot of casualties.”
The top official added: “Remember that Mawere had taken in a lot of people from the human resources department into the club executive after taking over from Nathan Shoko, who was from finance department, so he is set to leave with his ‘people.”
FC Platinum’s first club president, Shoko, left under a blanket of controversy amid allegations that he failed to account for money meant to finish off the construction of a grandstand at Mandava Stadium.
