Bulawayo- THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has apologised to its stakeholders for the disturbances that rocked the town chambers- City hall last month.
The city fathers hogged the limelight after the town clerk Christopher Dube resisted violently from being suspended by the deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami.
In a press statement jointly compiled by Mayor Solomon Mguni and Kambarami on Thursday, the city fathers assured its stakeholders that the chaos will not have a place in the future.
“The City of Bulawayo would like to apologise to residents and stakeholders on the recent disturbances that rocked the City on the 11th and 12th of July 2019.
“We want to assure the residents that this will not happen again. This incident is a reminder to all of us on the importance of unity in whatever we do,”
“It is also a reminder to all of us, that we are servants to the people of Bulawayo and must serve respectfully and honorably.
“Council has since ratified intervention measures aimed at bringing sanity and stability to the city,” read part of the statement.
BCC said its efforts are focused on strengthening its dedication and responsiveness to fighting corruption and the abuse of office.
“There shall be no sacred cows and anyone implicated must be investigated and go through the relevant audit processes.
“Once again the City of Bulawayo apologises to all stakeholders for the mix up. We will continue to serve you with integrity and reputation of the City of Kings, to ensure we become a smart and transformative City by 2024, in line with our vision,” further reads the statement.
Allegations raised against Dube included misappropriation of ward retention fund as stipulated in the ward retention fund, abuse of office and failure to implement council resolutions.
However the suspension was revoked by the Mayor Mguni who was reported to have been on study leave on the day of suspension.
