- Tariffs increase by 19%
- New tariff to be effected on March 1
ZIMBABWE Electricity Supply Authority(Zesa) has made an upward review of electricity tariffs with effect from March 1.
The power utility has increased tariffs by 19%.
In a notice released Thursday,it was stated that the increase was in accordance with the electricity tariff award of October 2 2019, which approved the monthly tariff indexation.
“The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has adjusted by 19 percent.
“This is in accordance with the tariff award of 2 October 2019, which approved the implementation of the monthly tariff indexation formula.
“It takes into account the movement of the macro-economic fundamentals such as exchange rate and inflation, for changes above 10%,” read the notice.
Meanwhile,Energy and Power Development minister Fortune Chasi said Zimbabwe is paying nearly US$1 million towards clearing its electricity debt to South Africa’s state power Utility Electricity Eskom.
