Taxman on high alert as COVID-19 ravages country

THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) on Sunday said its Kurima and ZB offices in Harare’s central business district will be temporarily shut between today (Monday) and tomorrow in order to allow for the disinfections of the premises, Zim Morning Post can report.

Zimra Commissioner General, Faith Mazani said in her communique Sunday that operations would revert back to normal on Wednesday following completion of the disinfections.

This circular serves to advise that the Authority is temporarily closing the Kurima House and ZB House offices from Monday 13 July and will open them on Wednesday 15, 2020 or when disinfection is completed,” she said.

Mazani, however, said stopgap measures had been taken and that Zimra would in the interim ensure that essential services are not disrupted.

According to the Zimra communique, the exercise in Harare follows a similar one at the Mhlahlandlela and Chiredzi offices after it was suspected that some workers there had come into conduct with the COVID-19 virus.

This exercise is an extension of similar safety measures taken during the recent temporary closure of our Mhlahlandlela and Chiredzi offices following possible contact with COVID-19 virus,” read the letter.

Zimra said it was encouraged to know that while they still awaited COVID-19 test results for workers in Mhlahlandlela, those from the Chiredzi offices had been confirmed negative for the virus.

Mazini also said selected employees from across the board at their Zimra Kurima House and ZB House in Harare would also be tested.

The Commissioner General said efforts were underway to ensure that all Zimra staff at borders in the country were also tested for COVID-19.

In her letter, Mazini asked all Zimra staff to exercise extreme World Health Organisation (WHO) COVID-19 safety measures.

We encourage all staff members to remain vigilant and consistent in practising safety and health measures as prescribed by the WHO Guidelines and advised through the Ministry of Health and Child Care,” Mazini added.
