MUTARE – Prominent business mogul and politician Isau Mupfumi has won the prestigious national 2020 Megafest Business Director of the year platinum award.
The prestigious Megafest Business awards were held at a Harare hotel on Wednesday night where various companies and businessmen walked away with various awards.
Mupfumi who is a renowned entrepreneur and the brains behind Chinjekure Enterprises, Mupfumi Investments and Gold Class Luxury Coaches was befittingly honoured for his innovative leadership style.
In recognition of the prestigious achievement, Mupfumi received a certificate and a medal.
The Megafest Business awards are a business leadership initiative meant to appreciate, recognise, reward and cheerlead trailblazers in Zimbabwe.
In an interview Mupfumi said: “I want to thank the organization for honouring me. It is quite encouraging. It is so humbling to be recognized. l always toil around hands on with the aim of directing things.”
He added: “It is very good and well appreciable at what Megafest has done by honouring people while they are still alive rather than honouring them when they are dead.”
Mupfumi said the recognition was not only on his business empire, but also how he has immensely contributed to the success of ZUPCO.
“The award was not only recognized on my companies and buses only but, the organizers also appreciated how l have managed and directed other entities like ZUPCO,” he said.
Mupfumi has been on a nationwide programme where he coordinated the smooth operations of ZUPCO buses.
“This came after I realized that commuters all over Zimbabwe had borne the brunt of high commuter omnibus fares among other challenges. But, we have been working hard to make sure that commuters have easy access to ZUPCO services,” he said.
Mupfumi has been working on behalf of the bus operators contracted to ZUPCO countrywide to have their payments in time and also encouraged the drivers not to down tools in protest of late salary payments.
The award comes at a time when Mupfumi who is ZANU PF aspiring Dangamvura/Chikanga constituency candidate in the forthcoming harmonized elections invited the Zimbabwe government Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care John Mangwiro and his team to offer free medical services to residents in the constituency.
Mangwiro and his team of doctors early this year offered free medical services to residents at Dangamvura Polyclinic.
Mupfumi provided medication and treatment material.
The move by Mupfumi came at a time when ordinary residents failed to access medical services due to financial constraints.
Mupfumi has been assisting various vulnerable families with foodstuffs, legal assistance and employment among other initiatives.
To showcase the leadership excellence, Mupfumi has embarked on a sports development program in the constituency that has economically and socially empowered the community.
Mupfumi recently bankrolled the Dangamvura/Chikanga Independence Sports Gala to the tune of US$8000.
