Parliament descended into chaos when 15 MPs from the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) were recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim CCC secretary general. The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, announced the decision, sparking an uproar from the affected MPs and their allies. They insisted that they only recognize Nelson Chamisa as their leader and rejected the recall.
The Speaker temporarily suspended the proceedings and called for police intervention to restore order. The CCC MPs remained defiant and refused to budge. They accused the Speaker of being biased and colluding with Tshabangu to undermine Chamisa’s leadership.
The standoff continued, with police and CCC MPs engaged in negotiations to resolve the impasse.
