Mutare police on Friday issued a prohibition order blocking Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from holding its intended rally on February 11 arguing that the venue had been pre-booked by a football team.
Police went to say that the rally could not take place as “some property owners are against the holding of the rally at their door steps.”
The CCC had approached the police in to notify them of the impending constituency rally at Rowa Grounds on Saturday.
In statement, the police acknowledged receipt of the notice on the above subject.
“Your convening notice is not compliant with the law,” the police wrote in response.
“The intended venue is also lined up with sporting activities by local football clubs who usually use the same facility.
“This office perceives the situation on the ground to be unfavourable for the holding of the rally and therefore it cannot proceed. Be guided accordingly.”
