NSSA rot: Minister hires experts

LABOUR and Social Welfare minister Sekai Nzenza has hired experts to comb through the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) forensic audit which has presented irregularities in investments, information and communication technology, human resources as well as corporate governance issues, Zim Morning Post has learnt.

This comes as NSSA suspended several of its top executives and middle level managers implicated in the forensic audit conducted by BDO Zimbabwe.

The audit, which presented irregularities in four key areas being investments, information and communications technology, human resources and corporate governance, has resulted in the arrest of former Labour minister Prisca Mupfumira.

Reached for comment Labour minister Sekai Nzenza said the new NSSA board seeks to take action on the report.

“I sought the assistance of experts and lawyers in each of the four areas. These lawyers had to go through procurement dept and due diligence,” Nzenza told Zim Morning Post.

“They were able to present to me and the board an outcome which required 1: Where there was behaviour of a criminal nature, then ZACC can manage that 2: Where there was misconduct, incompetence or sheer lack of capacity to deliver, the board and HR committee would manage that.”

Nzenza further said the new NSSA board is taking necessary action based on recommendations from the expert lawyers who unpacked the forensic report.

“To date, the chairman and board have stated that all current staff who are implicated in the forensic report will be asked to go on mandatory leave for an indefinite period, to give ample time for the board to deal with the issues raised against them,” Nzenza said.

As soon as the responses are received, they will be analysed to determine whether the employees should be reinstated or not. The board is working closely with the relevant lawyers. The ministry continues to ensure that good corporate governance is followed.
