- Nhumwa takes over at Manica Diamonds
- Replaces veteran coach Masomere
- Team improves performance
MUTARE – Premier soccer league outfit Manica Diamonds FC has appointed Johanisi Nhumwa as their new head coach.
Nhumwa has been acting coach of the team for the better part of last season’s second half.
He replaces Luke Masomere who was shown the exit door during mid season last year.
Masomere got the chop following a series of winless runs.
Nhumwa was assistant coach to Masomere.
The new coach is now expected to announce his assistant coaches this week.
Manica Diamonds chairman Masimba Chihowa confirmed Nhumwa’s appointment (today) Tuesday.
“We have given him the role of head coach.
“He has shown himself to be a good coach after he guided the team to fifth position last season,” Chihowa said.
“We see no reason why we should not have faith in him, as he has turned around the fortunes of the team,” he added.
Nhumwa took over from Masomere during mid season when the team was facing relegation.
He turned around the team’s fortunes after identifying players who were not being given enough game time and hauling them into the fray, a move that paid dividends.
Players like Last Jesi and Stanley Ngala were some of the overlooked players.
