- Second Lady set to lose Domboshava farm
- Farm illegally grabbed from Arda Seeds
IT never rains but pours for the embattled second lady, Marry Chiwenga, who is currently out of prison on a ZWL50 000 bail granted her by the High Court after she was arrested on charges of attempted murder and externalisation of cash, among others.
The second lady is now set to lose her farm located in Domboshava, having allegedly grabbed it from Arda Seeds soon after the military intervention in December 2017.
Zim Morning Post understands that just before her arrest, she had attempted to get a loan facility from CBZ to buy out Arda.
A source close to the goings-on told this publication that she recently applied for a loan to legitimise the takeover.
“She recently applied for a loan at CBZ but did not get the green light from the bank.
“She wanted to use the loan to buy out Arda which was actually renting another farm after soldiers ordered them out at Marry’s behest,” a source told Zim Morning Post.
The 300-hectare farm is located along Domboshawa Road and was specialised in seed production.
Marry reportedly claimed that she wanted to build a school on the farm after failing to get the property in 2013.
She argued that she wanted to service the poor Domboshava community, although there has been no production ever since she took over.
According to a top government official, Marry is set to lose the farm as Arda is making efforts to retain it.
Marry, who is currently in a nasty divorce fight with the country’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is also set to lose more properties, that she allegedly usurped using her political muscle as the second lady.
Her recent arrest sparked controversy with many accusing Chiwenga of using his proximity to power to divorce his wife.
A Harare-based lawyer Kudzai Kadzere said what was happening to Marry were pointers to the transient nature of spoils of war.
“These are what I call spoils of war.
“ You cannot sympathise with her, taking into regard the way she took over the farm.
“People should not abuse their proximity to power to settle personal wars, and this also applies to Chiwenga and Marry,” Kadzere said.
