Marry puts State on notice over delay in trial date

● Marry says no to further remand
● To submit application if trial date not given on February 14

VICE-PRESIDENT Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa, on Tuesday told the State that she will apply for refusal of further remand if it fails to give her a trial date on February 14, her next remand date.

Mubaiwa said this during her routine appearence at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Chrispen Mberewere.

The State was respresented by Tinashe Makiya.

Mubaiwa is facing allegations of externalising US$1 million to South Africa and China, including causing a magistrate to register a Chapter 5.11 marriage to Chiwenga without his consent.

The former model is also facing charges of attempting to murder her husband, Chiwenga.

Mubaiwa was arrested on December 14 at her matrimonial home in Borrowdale, Harare.

Her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa claimed she was naked in her bathroom on the day of arrest.

She was ordered to pay ZWL50 000 bail, surrender her diplomatic passport, report to the nearest police once in a fortnight on Fridays.

Conditions of her bail also include surrender of title deeds to a Highlands home offered by her father, Keni Mubaiwa, as collateral.
