HARARE – ZIFA presidential candidate Phillemon Machana has committed to serving only one term if elected as the new president of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), promising to focus on building a solid foundation for the revival of Zimbabwean football.
Machana made the pledge ahead of the upcoming election on January 25, where he will compete for the top position against other contenders, including Nqobile Magwizi, Twine Phiri, Makwinji Soma Phiri, and Marshall Gore.
“This is not about personal gain or staying in power,” Machana said. “My goal is to create a roadmap for football’s revival within four years. I want to reset and revolutionize our football systems and develop a 15-year strategic plan for sustainable growth. It’s like a 4x100m relay—I might start the race, but I want to pass the baton to the next leader to finish it off.”
Emphasizing unity and inclusivity, Machana aims to create opportunities for players, coaches, and fans. He also pledged to address longstanding challenges, including legacy issues, while ensuring a smooth transition for future leaders.
“I want my tenure to be remembered for empowering others and building systems that work even after I’m gone,” he added.
In a bid to reassure stakeholders, Machana underscored the importance of transparency in leadership. “Accountability is the cornerstone of leadership. I will work hand-in-hand with the football community to ensure our priorities are aligned,” he said.
As the ZIFA elections draw near, Machana’s one-term pledge and vision for a collaborative, sustainable future may resonate with stakeholders eager for transformative leadership in Zimbabwean football.
