MUTARE – Three Sungano Apostolic sect church members recently died after they suffocated in a cave on Murahwa Hills of Chikanga high density suburbs.
The cave is believed to be sacred.
The trio are believed to have visited the cave on a ten-day prayer session.
Police spokesperson in Manicaland Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the deaths.
Kakohwa said despite the lockdown precautions put in place by goverment barring bars and churches from opening, ten members from the Sungano Apostolic Church went to Murahwa Hills on a 10-day fasting and prayer session.
Kakohwa said the members entered the cave and lit fires.
It is reported that as the fire gathered momentum, it produced a thick smoke, leading to the chocking to death of three of of the ten church members.
Traditional leaders in Mutare said the ongoing mysterious deaths at the hills required immediate exorcism.
“The Murahwa Hills is sacred as there have been numerous deaths there. We think it is high time we exorcised the hills,” Samuel Kandiero, from the Zimbabwe Traditional Healers Association Manicaland Chapter, said.
The hills are home to the Pool of Death where numerous mysterious deaths have been reported.
