Grant Thornton partner faces US$200,000 adultery claim from journalist

Journalist alleges affair involving trips to South Africa and Madagascar

HARARE — Grant Thornton Zimbabwe partner and Telecel Zimbabwe corporate rescue practitioner Kundai Francis Tibugare is facing a US$200,000 adultery damages claim from veteran journalist Musorowegomo Mukosi, who accuses him of having an affair with his wife and wrecking their nine-year marriage.

Mukosi, a former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation reporter, alleges that Tibugare has been involved in an extramarital relationship with his wife, Esther Vimbainashe Mukosi, including taking her on trips to South Africa and Madagascar.

In a letter of demand sent through lawyer Admire Rubaya, Mukosi claims to have obtained flight records, telephone call logs, cellphone location data, photographs and CCTV footage allegedly documenting the relationship.

The journalist alleges that Tibugare and his wife traveled together to South Africa between July 15 and 19, 2026, before making another trip to Madagascar from Sept. 21 to 24.

He claims the two shared a room at the Ibis Antananarivo Ankorondrano hotel in Madagascar for three nights, while his wife had allegedly told him she was traveling to Tanzania on accounting consultancy business.

“There are clear pictures and videos of you and our client’s wife enjoying each other’s company at a hotel called Ibis Antananarivo Ankorondrano in Madagascar, yet our client’s wife had lied to her husband that she had travelled to Tanzania for some accounting consultancy business,” the letter reads.

“You stayed in Madagascar sharing the same room for the three nights you spent at that hotel in Madagascar.”

Mukosi further alleges that the pair regularly met at a property in Cranborne, Harare, while pursuing studies at the University of Zimbabwe.

The journalist claims to have obtained communication records and cellphone location information that he believes support his allegations.

“As if that is not enough, our client has evidence of call logs showing constant communication, triangulation records showing the places where you two have met for your sexual escapades,” the letter states.

Mukosi also accuses Tibugare of buying his wife a Toyota Fortuner and personally delivering the vehicle to their matrimonial home in Crowhill Farm.

“You have taken the extra-marital affair to another level since you had the guts and temerity to purchase a Toyota Fortuner for our client`s wife,” the letter reads.

“You personally delivered the motor vehicle at our client’s matrimonial home.”

According to the demand, Mukosi’s wife has allegedly told him that she and Tibugare are soul mates and that their relationship would continue despite Tibugare also being married.

“Our client advises that his wife has made it clear to him that you and her are soul mates, joined by love which runs deep, notwithstanding your status as a married man,” the letter states.

Mukosi claims the alleged relationship has caused him humiliation, emotional distress and the breakdown of his marriage.

He is demanding US$100,000 for contumelia, relating to alleged injury to his dignity and reputation, and another US$100,000 for loss of consortium, referring to the loss of companionship and marital relations.

“In the circumstances, our client instructs us to demand as we hereby do the US$100,000 for contumelia (injury to dignity, reputation, and privacy) and US$100,000 for loss of consortium (loss of the comfort, society, and services of his spouse),” the letter reads.

The allegations are contained in a legal demand and have not been established by a court.
