ZANU PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu on Wednesday chided party officials who feed President Emmerson Mnangagwa with misleading information.
Claims are rampant within Zanu PF that some party official nicodemusly visit Mnangagwa with the aim to convey lies to him so they could receive certain favours in turn.
During the National Youth Convention in Kadoma, Mpofu said some Zanu PF members should avoid telling falsehoods to Mnangagwa as that had the potential to divide the party.
“I urge party members that when they talk to the President, they must tell the truth that is on the ground and not falsehoods,” Mpofu said.
Previously, Mpofu sued the party’s youth affairs deputy secretary, Lewis Matutu for $10 million, after Matutu had accused him of being corrupt.
The claim emanated from a Press conference addressed by Matutu on June 24 at the Zanu PF headquarters.
Mpofu claimed that his reputation and standing as a businessman and politician had been damaged in the eyes of the public following the statement.
He also said the corruption allegations were false, malicious, scandalous, wrongful and defamatory in nature.
“The content of the statement was widely disseminated in the local print and electronic media and on various other social media platforms,” read the summons.
According to Mpofu, the statement was defamatory, false and misleading allegations stated that the plaintiff had violated the foundation of democracy in Zimbabwe.
Some political analysts submited that Mpofu’s utterances were an insinuation that Matutu and his youth league henchmen were being sycophantic .
“Mpofu was insinuating that Matutu and his youth league clique are sycophants who spread lies to the President and appear as saints.
“Although he did not mention any names, it is clear as pie stuff that he was making reference to the youth league who acused him of being corrupt and diamonds looter,” said a political analyst who refused to be named.
