Chipinge Mentally Challenged Neighbor Brutally Killed Innocent Three-Year-Old Baby

A suspected mentally challenged man from Chipinge, Benjamin Sithole, brutally killed his neighbor’s three-year-old baby with a hoe.

Fatal Assault with a Hoe

Sithole’s violent outburst began when Ms. Mashava, encountered him while carrying her baby on her back on December 30. Sithole, armed with a hoe, demanded that she give him some vegetables. However, when Ms. Mashava refused, Sithole struck little Agnes on her back with the hoe.

A Descent into Tragedy

Sithole retreated to a nearby field and swiftly returned armed with another hoe. Without hesitation, he viciously struck Agnes twice on her head. The innocent child fell to the ground, succumbing to her injuries on the spot.

Investigation and Possible Mental Health Connection

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed that investigations are underway. Sithole is suspected to be a mental patient, raising concerns about his state of mind during the attack.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka provided further details, stating, “Sithole and the deceased are neighbors, and on December 30, Ms. Mashava left home to collect some vegetables from her friend. Ms. Mashava had the baby strapped on her back when they met Sithole who demanded that Ms. Mashava give him some vegetables. Ms. Mashava refused. Sithole, who was armed with a hoe, struck Agnes once on the back. Ms. Mashava wrestled with Sithole and managed to disarm him.”

Immediate Response and Capture

Following the dreadful incident, Ms. Mashava cried out for assistance, prompting neighbors to rush to her aid. The community swiftly intervened, apprehending Sithole and ensuring he could not escape before the authorities arrived.
