Cheeky land baron caged for theft, criminal trespassing

CHEEKY Harare  land developer, Mettiland Madiye, has appeared on Tuesday appeared in court answering to  charges of theft, malicious damage to property and criminal trespassing.

He was remanded in custody to June 15 by presiding magistrate Magistrate Richard Ramaboa.

The State led by Mr Terence Mashaire allege that on March 12, this year, at around 9am, Madiye teamed up with five other accomplices and went to 17734 Ashdown Park, Harare where the managing director of rival company Rubicon Construction Company lives.

Madiye and his accomplices, armed with axes, allegedly destroyed a wooden cabin and other property belonging to the managing director forcing him to evacuate the place.

On March 28, Madiye allegedly teamed up with his accomplices and went to Witness Tumelo Zamanga’s place at number 12 Ashdown Park, which is under development.

The suspects forced Zamanga’s driver, Aaron Chidanire, to remove a cabin erected on the piece of land.

Madiye reportedly destroyed other properties and tools used to develop the stand.

Further allegations against Madiye are that on March 28 at around 2pm, he took Zamanga’s two wooden cabins.

Prosecutor Mashaire also alleges that on April 27 at around 4:30pm, the accused and his team went to Clement Nyambo’s place in Ashdown Park, Harare and ordered him to vacate the place.

Madiye allegedly claimed that the piece of land was his.

Further allegations against Madiye are that he threatened to assault Nyambo, his wife and set their cabin on fire if the couple resisted evacuating the land.

Madiye also allegedly threatened to destroy property.
