SELF-EXILED kingpins of the G40 faction have been angered by their inability to travel back in the country to bury Former President Robert Mugabe amid fears that they would be arrested.
This comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa refused to budge after former first lady Grace Mugabe sought to have her fellow “colleagues” allowed to come back into the country without being “persecuted.”
Former ministers Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao will have to bury the late former president over the phone as Mnangagwa maintained that only members of the former first family were guaranteed immunity.
The angered G40 kingpins have in turn gone all systems out to condemn Mnangagwa’s regime for “tormenting” Mugabe contrary to what Mnangagwa said.
“President Mugabe was in hospital for five days before he passed on, he was tormented by Zanu PF, he was tormented by the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Zhuwao said while addressing a Mugabe memorial service hosted by the Julius Malema-led Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) outfit.
“Mugabe said and I quote,”Zimbabwe is where I was born, Zimbabwe is where I will die,” and Zimbabwe is where he will be buried,” that is what he said. But president Mugabe did not die in Zimbabwe because of Mnangagwa.”
Kasukuwere, told the gathering that they are waiting for a signal: “We are waiting for a signal Cde Malema, we don’t know how to treat them, now that he has gone, he should have just told us how we are going to handle some of these sellouts.”
“Those who are now trying to bury him when he never wanted him, come on go to hell you are lying to us, you never wanted him,” Kasukuwere said.
On Thursday at the Mugabes’ Blueroof private residence Mnangagwa, however, told the mourners that his government has been assisting Mugabe since his ouster in November 2017.
Mugabe succumbed to illness on September 6 in Singapore where he was getting medical treatment.
There were battles between the Mnangagwa-led government and the Mugabe family as to where the late former president would be buried but it would seem the family has given in and the veteran leader will be buried at the Heroes Acre.
